Lyon and Healy Parlor repair. Is there any good method to soften/release old hide glue and re-clamp to close the gap? The braces will be removed and new X bracing installed. This appears to be a very old repair using hide glue, but it wasn't quite closed up at the time of the original repair so the crack is still open. Its holding very well and we may just leave it. After several years of fighting with my bandsaw blade jumping off every few inches of cut (it needs a new bearing on the top wheel), I decided to try something bass-ackwards. I put the blade on with the teeth facing the 'wrong' direction. Not only did that solve the problem of the blade jumping off, but it has made the cutting of pickguard material much smoother. Question about splines: At what point are they necessary? My question is primarily regarding the crack to the left between the bridge and the sound hole as well as the crack at the upper bout that runs along the fingerboard extension.
